Is it possible to homeschool kindergarten and run a business? This was the question that I found myself answering this past year. I homeschooled almost every other grade, but kindergarten seemed like a step to far. Is it hard to homeschool a kindergartener?

I will tell you the conclusion. Spoiler alert, yes, you can work from home and homeschool kindergarten. It helps to get the right homeschool curriculum and tools, so you can outsource some of the teaching, take the stress off your schedule, and still be an amazing homeschool mom.

My Journey to Homeschool Kindergarten

I never wanted to teach kindergarten. I was terrified of teaching homeschool kindergarten. Teaching these younger grades can feel impossible as a work from home mom. They require so much teaching and very little independence. It can feel overwhelming.

My grand plan was to send the kids to school, and let someone else teach them the basics of reading and math. Then, I would bring them home and homeschool. Perfect plan. Someone else did the hard part. Unfortunately, it only worked for the first four.

Let me start at the beginning of my journey with homeschool kindergarten. My four oldest kids all have summer birthdays. So I decided to start them in kindergarten when they turned 6, instead of just turned 5.

Number 5 decided to disrupt my well laid plans with an April birthday. So that brought me back to the drawing board of how to homeschool kindergarten. I decided the best plan for him was to homeschool him.

In order to homeschool him well, I knew that I would need to add programs that he could do online and independently.

To Use Screens in Your Homeschool Kindergarten or Not to Use

This is the question I consistently see in all the homeschool mom groups. There is a love hate relationship towards screens. We don’t want to use them as a babysitter, but sometimes we just need a few minutes of quiet. Whether it is for a video call, phone call, or just needing to do focused worked. We just need the littles occupied.

As a homeschool and work from home mom, we know that we are going to need moments in our day when little ones need to be distracted with something other than mom. Would you rather occupy them with a cartoon or with activities that teach them how to read?

I understand the concerns with screentime. But we live in a digital age, it seems like everything is related to a screen. You can find balance with screentime, so it can work for you and your goals.

It is hard to work from home. Using programs like Homeschool+ will take the stress off your mom schedule. Kids can work independently. Yes, even for kindergarten. They are learning. Your kids can learn from an online reading program, and you can get some work done. Mom involvement not required.

Mom, breathe a sigh of relief. One of the biggest pressures for homeschool kindergarten is wondering how you can actually teach them to read. Get help with this. Yes, you can outsource your teaching and still be a great homeschool mom.

Use online kindergarten programs to enhance and help with your homeschool. If you are concerned about too much screen time. Substitute cartoon watching with learning from Homeschool+. Your kids will learn reading and math when you need those moments of quiet. It is a win-win for both of you.

Help for Your Kindergarten Homeschool

You can’t do everything. I know, I just said the quiet part out loud. Mom, it is ok to recognize that you can’t do everything. Once you realize it, then you can start looking for tools to help in your homeschool kindergarten.

I used online computer reading programs for lower elementary, and they have alleviated so much stress. I am confident that my kids are at grade-level for reading. And I don’t need to worry about missing a concept because I know the program is covering everything. So where do you find a program like this?

You need to check out Homeschool+. It is a tool that you can use in your kindergarten homeschool for more than just reading. It is a new program designed for homeschoolers that I am excited to share with you.

It offers more than just reading. There are three curriculum components, My Math Academy, My Reading Academy, and Arts, Sciences, and General Knowledge. It is designed for ages 4–8, which is pre-k to 2nd grade. But my 3-year-old is able to navigate it when she steals her brother’s computer.

One of the best features is that it is adaptive. It is customized based on each child’s understanding of math and reading. Both are designed to put just-right challenges in front of your child. Your child is truly able to master the concepts, not just complete a lesson. And your child can do it independently. Since this is a new program, my kindergartner is trying it out, and he can navigate it and use it on his own.

Conclusion: Homeschooling Kindergarten

Homeschool+ is designed to teach fundamental concepts for comprehension. So you don’t need to worry about missing something. Your child can navigate it without your help. It will give you the moments of quiet you need throughout your day, while your child is still learning.

Mom, if you need help so you can work and homeschool, then check out Homeschool+.
