Mom Hero WFH and Homeschool Mom

About the Mom

The Work From Home Mom

I’m a work from home mom. I understand the challenges of raising kids, running a business, and keeping your sanity…most days. My roles include wife, mom of homeschooling mom of 6, and accidental entrepreneur.

I have been juggling kids, school, and clients for almost 10 years now. I’ve learned a few things along the way, and I love to share my experience with you. So you can be confident that you can do it too.

It is not an easy path. I am writing this on a Saturday morning. My husband is walking around with the baby strapped to him, just so I can get a break. She started our morning at 5am, and I need a break. I’ve been interrupted twice now to take my 3-year-old to the potty because we are potty training. It will literally take me twice as long to write this. I wanted to paint this picture for you to give you a glimpse of a “normal day”. Can you relate?

About the Mom

I don’t have a story of extremes. I’ve never Work-From-Home-Mombeen obese and then decided to get in shape and run a marathon, but I can crush a 5K. I am not a former CEO or a former producer of a daytime talk show. And I haven’t grown a multi-million dollar essential oil business.

I’m a Christian, wife, and mom of six wanna be superheroes (4 boys and 2 girls, and, yes, I birthed them all). Every mom needs her own crew of heroes. I am a successful entrepreneur and homeschooling mom. My story is not one of extremes, about overcoming life, but a story of everyday perseverance. And I hope you can relate to my story.

I grew up in the military, so I’ve lived all across the USA and seen the majority of it. My husband and I are college sweethearts, and we have been married for 17 years now.

Work-from-home-mom-3We started our married life in the hustle and bustle of New York City. We lived mainly in Queens and spent our weekdays commuting back and forth into Manhattan. Our 3 oldest children were born in NYC. It was definitely an exciting place to live and start our lives together, but by the time we had number 3 it was time to escape the city and head to the country.

We finally settled in Colorado via Pennsylvania. We added 3 more kids to the mix since living here. We’ve grown our business and our family all at the same time.

The Man Behind the Mom

Now a little about the man behind the woman. My husband is in information technology and keeps me connected to the world. He also supplies me with all of the latest technology, and keeps my office space awesome. He is a born and bred New Yorker, and will always consider himself a city dweller.

A Little More About the Work from Home Mom

When I’m not working, homeschooling, or keeping everything together, I am a closet creative. I thoroughly enjoy art and teaching art at our homeschool co-op. Although I’m not very good at the art part, I love studying and teaching art history.

Books are my best friend. My idea of a fun vacation is not cooking and reading a good book. My husband and I are both Star Wars and Marvel fans.

The Early Years: Before Working From Home

My plan was never to be an entrepreneur, but I’ve always wanted to be a work from home mom. I consider myself risk adverse, so the idea of leaping out on my own was more than a little terrifying. My story is very similar to many. I spent the first part of my career working in a traditional office setting. My husband and I worked together at three different non-profits (we really liked working together).

The first place was in New York City, and we had our first three kids during this time. We hauled them through NYC traffic to the office and daycare. Worked almost 12-hour days, Work-From-Home-Mom-2then hauled the kids back home to make them dinner and put them to bed. And then start the whole crazy process the next day.

Our second job took us to the rolling green hills of Pennsylvania. It was a drastic and needed change. We spent two years here before heading west.

When Everything Changed

We finally settled in Colorado, and that is when everything changed. At this time my oldest was in first grade, and I had a preschooler and a toddler. And we had our fourth child. Our goal was to get into a better position so we could homeschool the kids by the time they reached junior high. It seemed so far away, but, oh, how quickly it comes. We had no idea what this would look like.

Then it happened, my boss was laid off, and by association I was too—you can’t be an executive assistant without someone to assist. This was really a turning point for us, and we decided to take the time to build a business, and reach our goal of being a work from home mom and homeschooling mom. I entered the world of momtrepreneurship. (Feel free to read more about my office career.)

Starting a Virtual Assistant Business…I Became a Work From Home Mom

It was very scary starting my own business. There were so many questions: Where was I going to find clients? How do I even do this? Can I do this? What should I do? Do these questions sound familiar?

I had a 3-month severance package. That gave me 3 months to get this up and running, and to land my first client. And I did it. After 5 years, I look back and I am still amazed at the business that has been built.

Why I Started this Blog for Work From Home Moms

I started this blog because I realized there isn’t a whole lot out there for momtrepreneurs. There are not many people working from home with kids (until 2020 that is, then everyone became a work from home parent). There are things for working moms or moms who have started their own business. Usually these are former CEOs or Executive Producers for a daytime talk show, but nothing for the ordinary mom starting a business and homeschooling.

I wanted to create a place for work from home moms who are (or want to) run a business and have the flexibility of homeschooling your kids. If what I just said sounds like you, then you are in the right place. This blog was created for you. This is a place where you can find encouragement, help, laughter, and advice. Most importantly it is a place for you to connect with other moms…just like you.

I would love to hear from you anytime! Leave a comment, or send me a note.Work-from-home-mom-4
