5 Benefits of Adding a US Election Lapbook to Your Homeschool

It is really important that our kids understand how the US election works and in what ways it impacts the government.

Here are five benefits of teaching kids about the US election.

1. Critical Thinking

When you dive it the world of politics, kids will need to analyze information and understand different viewpoints in order to make an informed decision. We want our kids to be independent thinkers, politics is a great place to start teaching them that skill. Also, you will need to know when someone is exaggerating or outright lying.

The US election lapbook is great place to test out those critical thinking skills. It is an important skill to evaluate candidates and issues critically.

2. Historical Knowledge

This is one of the best parts of the US election labpook, it gives the historical foundation of our government. In order to fully understand how our government works, we need to grasp why it was setup to work this way.

As kids grow into young adults, they will have the knowledge they need to discern if new political ideas are appropriate for our system of government.

3. Civic Awareness and Engagement

We want our kids to be informed citizens, understanding the election process will help them to engage with politics. We can’t avoid politics. Yes, there are some days I wish I could. But we have the privilege of having a say in who works in government. It is important that we use that privilege.

4. Better Communication Skills

Politics is a great way to teach kids how to articulate their thoughts, listen to others, and engage in conversations where there is disagreement. This is definitely a skill that is lacking in recent years, so let’s teach the next generation of voters how to do it well.

5. Encourage Lifelong Learning

Creating an early understanding of the election process instills a habit of staying informed about current events and what’s happening politically. Showing them where to get good information and how to discern the truth from fiction, helps them to gain a better understanding of the political world around them.
