Mom, homeschool and work from home is hard, but it is not impossible. You can do it, and I am going to tell you how in this week’s coffee chat.
This is the momtrepreneur life coffee chat. We pull the curtain back on life as a work from home and homeschool mom. This is the let’s have an honest conversation about homeschool and work from home. Too many times what’s out there is just the highlight reel—all the good things—and we never get into the nitty gritty of the hard stuff.
Of if they do get into the nitty gritty, it is so hard I wonder why I would even want to homeschool and work from home. I saw one post describing it as walking a tightrope, while juggling swords that were on fire. My first thought was, it is not that hard. The swords are not always on fire.
Thousands of Moms Homeschool and Work from Home
I am still surprised when a fellow mom asks the question, “Can you really homeschool and work from home? How is it possible?” There are thousands of moms who do it. I’ve been doing it for almost 10 years now. So to answer the question, “Yes, it is ABSOLUTELY possible.”
Why We Think Homeschooling and Working from Home is Impossible
We’ve been conditioned to think that sending kids off to school is the easy way. And homeschool and work from home is hard. That doing carpool, homework, getting kids out the door, making sure clothes are correct, getting lunches together, etc, etc, etc. This is easy. Right?
Mom, this morning rush is hard. Think about getting up. Everyone meandering to the table in their pjs to get breakfast. There is no morning rush to get out the door at a certain time. Yes, we wear our pjs to work and homeschool. If I am home, I am going to be as comfortable as possible.
Is Homeschool and Work from Home Hard?
Yes, it can be. But I wouldn’t say it is any harder than doing the mad dash out the door every morning with your kids. It really comes down to choosing your hard.
For me, I’ve done carpool and all the homework after school. Why they need homework after seven hours in the classroom still boggles my mind. I did get to the point of almost refusing to do it. The evening should be for family time, not more schoolwork.
One is not any harder than the other. We just choose our hard.
You Don’t Have to be Passionate to do Something
Another thing I hear a lot is, “I’m not passionate about doing the dishes, cleaning the house, laundry, or all the extra-curriculars.” No one is passionate about these things. Maybe some are, and if that is you then I have mad respect.
All of these things, plus the expectation to be fed every single night, seems a bit much. We don’t have to be passionate about something to do it. Let’s be honest, passion is a ridiculous metric to measure something by. If you aren’t passionate, then you aren’t going to do it. That is ridiculous.
