Homeschooling is all about hands-on experiences. We have the unique opportunity to explore the world outside of the classroom. If your child’s learning style is hands-on, this makes learning come alive. Homeschool marine biology camp is a great way for students to be immersed in the world of marine science.
We are homeschool moms. It is totally acceptable to turn your vacation into a really long field trip. We did that with our trip to Alaska. From spotting whales to discovering starfish on the beach. Seeing the creatures in the wild was an amazing experience for everyone.
It sparks curiosity, which leads to kids asking questions, and then finding the answers. All this adds to their knowledge and learning experience. But it makes it more memorable for them. They will always remember the purple starfish we found on the beach. Or the whale tail coming out of the water. These are unforgettable experiences.
The Importance of Learning Marine Biology
The ocean covers 70% of the Earth’s surface, and it holds approximately 96.5% of all the water on Earth. On top of that, about 70% of the oxygen we breathe is produced from the oceans.
It is an understatement to say that the ocean plays a pivotal role in our life on Earth. As caretakers, it is important to understand the significance of the ecosystem and appreciate the impact oceans have on use.
Scientists have only studied a small portion of the ocean, and there are 230,000 known species. There is so much left to explore.
Oceans play an important role in regulating climate, providing food, and supporting biodiversity.
Homeschool marine biology camp offers the Gulf of Mexico as the classroom. Your kids grasp the importance of being a caretaker to what we’ve been given.
The Benefits of Hands-On Learning with Homeschool Marine Biology Camp
We are homeschool moms, and that means we like hands-on experiences. That doesn’t mean we don’t embrace textbooks, but we just like to incorporate experience in learning.
Adding hands-on learning really cements the concepts for kids. They can take what they’ve learned in the textbook and apply it to something in real life. Doing something in real life gives the brain more anchor points in the memory that they can tie the concept to.
Exploring the beach in Alaska had a greater impact on my kids than anything they read in a book. Seeing marine life up close and personal is a memory they will hold on to for the rest of their lives. Add in the fact that it was an epic vacation and adventure, these things leave indelible memories for them.
Learning is about asking good questions. There are some questions that will only be asked because kids experienced something. They don’t know what they don’t know, and learning in a hands-on environment is going to open their eyes to what they don’t know. More than a book will.
Now I love books including textbooks, but I know the textbook is constrained by space. It can only offer so much information because there is a certain number of pages. Hands-on learning doesn’t have the same constraint. There is more space for kids to realize what they don’t know, to ask questions, and to gain a greater understanding of their subject matter.
Overview of Homeschool Marine Biology Camp
Knowing all the benefits of hands-on learning, I am excited to tell you about Landry homeschool marine science camp. It is a camp for the whole family. You can easily turn your family vacation into a week-long field trip at the beach.
The camps are Christ-centered and taught by Greg Landry, MS, a homeschool dad and former college professor. From my personal experience, he is also an excellent teacher.
The camps take place on the Gulf of Mexico on Dauphin Island, Alabama. Since it is a subtropical island, camps run throughout the year. That is the best kept secret about homeschooling. We can go on vacation when everyone else is in school.
The family marine science camp offers an immersive experience for the week. Study, explore, and experiment on a research boat, at an aquarium, and on the beach. Students will get a greater understanding and appreciation of the oceans.
It is also one semester of marine science with labs. You can add it to your high school transcript.
Conclusion: Dive into an Ocean of Learning with Homeschool Marine Biology Camp
The homeschool marine biology camp is more than just an educational program; it’s a gateway to a world of discovery and inspiration. By combining classroom instruction with hands-on fieldwork, the camp provides a unique and enriching experience that fosters an appreciation for marine biology.
