Homeschool Organization For Working Homeschool Moms

This is the time of year that I start cheating on my current curriculum. Yep, I am ready for this year to end, and start looking forward to next year. But the one thing I dread is the homeschool organization required for a new year.

Homeschooling and working from home is not about just having the right curriculum, but it is also about the homeschool planning. You need a homeschool curriculum that will work for your child’s learning style, work with your work schedule, and not be boring. Then you need to figure out all the homeschool organization for.

I have 6 kids to plan and organize, so it is no small task. I’ve been homeschooling and working from home for about 10 years now. In the years, I’ve pieced together my own curriculum and I used open and go curriculum.

There isn’t a perfect curriculum, but there are always a better fit.

The Pros and Cons of Curriculum for Homeschool Organization

There are so many options for curriculum. My biggest issue is not buying all shiny things. You can tailor curriculum to fit each child’s learning style. Or you can find the best open and go curriculum for your kids.

I typically prefer open and go curriculum because I don’t need to plan anything. The kids literally open the boxes, and they are ready to go.

The downside of this is not all the subjects are the best fit. We may love the math of a particular curriculum, but hat the science (or just not like that much). Now we are stuck with it because it is too expensive to change now.

However, piecing together all the subjects means I have to plan everything. Putting together your own curriculum, really allows you to customize your homeschool. But multiply that by all my kids. And let’s just say I’ve spent a lot of time on homeschool organization and planning for the year.

Homeschool Transcripts Need to be Part of Your Homeschool Organization

All my homeschool planning is now compounded with three high schoolers. And that means they need a homeschool high school transcript. The funny thing about transcripts is you may or may not need it. My sister and I are homeschool graduates, and we’ve never given a transcript to anyone. My oldest son hasn’t graduated yet, but I had to show his transcript for dual enrollment college.

You just never know when you are going to need it. My rule of thumb is to keep it for each year. Fill it in as you go along, so you aren’t scrambling to remember everything years later. Then don’t be surprised if you never need it.

Homeschool Planning Tools

Is the overwhelm starting to overtake you as well. There are so many things you need to do. And let’s not forget, we are still working homeschool moms.

For years now, I’ve kept everything in Excel. Attendance records, grades, transcripts, even my curriculum planning has been in excel. It has worked, but the problem is everything has to be entered manually. Yes, I can use some formulas to automate somethings, but the daily work has to be entered by hand.

And something usually gets messed up. Then my kids are asking confused questions, and I’m wondering why they aren’t just following the plan that I painstakingly put together. It is just a lot of work.

But let me introduce to my new best friend.
