This modern Christmas inspired story takes the reader across the United States at Christmas time. Tom, a disillusioned journalist, is forced to travel by train during the holidays. The story is set almost entirely aboard a train traveling from Washington D.C. to Los Angeles, the novel delivers a message about second chances, the kindness of strangers, and the magic of the season.
Summary
Tom Langdon, a former war correspondent turned travel writer, is forced to take a cross-country train during the holidays due to a no-fly incident. What begins as an inconvenient journey quickly turns into an unexpected adventure. Along the way, he meets a colorful cast of characters—an aging movie director, an eccentric psychic, a mysterious couple, and, most notably, a former flame he never quite got over.
As snowstorms, missing luggage, and unexpected delays shake up the ride, so too do surprising reunions, budding romances, and moments of personal revelation. The train becomes more than just transportation, it’s a metaphorical journey toward healing, love, and rediscovering what truly matters.

Who Should Read This Book?
It is fun to see authors that I’ve read make such a huge shift from from the genre they are known for. The Christmas Train is such a book.
This book is the perfect read for those who enjoy a cozy story curled up in front of the fire with the Christmas lights twinkling in the background. It is a light hearted, character driven story that’s perfect for the season with a touch of romance.
If you are looking for a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of the season, then this is the book you’ve been looking for.
If I were rating this book like a movie (or you could watch the movie, I haven’t seen it), I would give it a PG or PG-13 rating. There are a few parts where adult themes are mentioned. They aren’t graphic or over the top, but they are still there. There is some mild language as well. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
Final Verdict of The Christmas Train
The Christmas Train is a charming holiday journey that balances humor, romance, and a touch of mystery. While it may not have the edge of Baldacci’s thrillers, it offers warmth, wit, and a satisfying dose of holiday magic. It’s perfect for curling up with on a cold December night, or any time you need a reminder of the joy that can be found in unexpected places. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
