How To Go On Vacation As A Mompreneur | Road Trip With 6 Kids

For this week’s coffee chat we are going to talk about how to go on vacation as a mompreneur.

Last week, I did not post a coffee chat because we were on vacation. I wanted to share what we did and inspire you to plan your next epic vacation with your family.

The momtrepreneur life coffee chat is a time to pull back the curtain on life as a momtrepreneur. As a homeschooling mom of 6, ages 2-16, we are in the middle of it all. This is a time for us to just get real.

Before we get into the topic at hand, remember to check out The Wild Ride of Momtrepreneurs: The Secret to My Success and What to do for Summer. We are finishing school this week, woohoo, so this is the perfect show.

Grab your coffee, throw your hair up, and if you are as exhausted as I am, we are in good company.

How to Go on Vacation as a Mompreneur—Road Trip!

We took a 13 hour car ride, so we could go to the beach. I grew up around the water, and I didn’t realize how much I missed it until we were land locked. The two oldest kids are the only ones who’ve seen the ocean. So it was time to take them to some real water.

With the planning the trip there was some criteria that needed to be met. There needed to a beach involved, we had to get there in a day, and there needed to be other fun stuff around.

This trip was about two years in the making. As a momtrepreneur and independent contractor, you need to make sure that your budget is not in dire need while you are away and not working. Plan ahead, save money, so you can pay yourself for your time off. Start setting this aside as part of your planning. This is one thing that needs to be considered.

My Idea of Vacation

This is my idea of vacation—laying by the pool and reading a good book. It is nice and relaxing. So a good time of rest.

On the other hand, my kids’ idea of vacation is to be constantly moving and doing something. So vacation is not necessarily restful for the parents. But we did plan for that. We came home on a Thursday, so that we could give ourselves a long weekend to recover. And we still acted like we were on vacation, so no cooking.

Watch the video or listen to the podcast for all the details on being on the road, our favorite adventure, and the great thing about homeschooling is we can take a homeschool vacation with a week of school left. We are truly making memories with the kids.

It is not always easy to go on vacation as a work from home mom. More than likely, you are working to pay for curriculum not to be wealthy, so things can be tight. Curriculum is not cheap. Figure out what fits within your budget, and what can you do to create some epic experiences with your kids.
