Are you ready to start something new, but you are afraid? Whether it is homeschool or starting a business, it takes great courage to be a beginner.
Welcome to another momtrepreneur life coffee chat. This is a place where we talk about all things momtrepreneur, from raising your kids, to running a business, to keeping your sanity. I have been a homeschool mom of 6 and virtual assistant for almost 10 years. Today we are going to talk about the courage you need to be a beginner.
I came across this thought on Pinterest or some place in the depths of the internet. And I thought this would be a really good coffee chat. This is the time to pull back the curtain on life as a momtrepreneur and to be a beginner at anything is something to chat about.
It is Scary to be a Beginner
When I started my virtual assistant business, I was laid off so the transition from corporate workhorse to momtrepreneur was sudden. But I didn’t feel like a beginner. I had established a good reputation, established myself as someone you want to work with, and established myself as someone who can get it done.
It was fairly easy to start the business because I had the social proof already. So it was easy to do.
Now that I started my second business, lifeunboxed.blog, which is a content creation business designed to help moms want to break free from the 9–5, be their own boss, raise their kids, and enjoy their lives! That is the goal of this business, and I really started as a beginner.
Right before I was ready to hit publish, I started to panic. I remember lying in bed, and just feeling overwhelmed. It is so vulnerable to put yourself out there. All the feelings and questions were so overwhelming that I almost backed out.
It comes back to the idea that it really takes courage to be a beginner.
Courage Doesn’t Mean Fearless
The teen years also got me thinking about this idea of beginning. Everything they do right now is new. Whether it is driving, getting a job, or starting college classes. It is all new, and they are beginners at it.
There is so much hesitation and fear surrounding being a beginner. A lot of times it can prevent you from even starting.
That is why you need to be courageous, not fearless, but courageous. This means that you are going to start despite your fear. That is what courage means. You are going to do it despite your fear.
Listen to the episode to find out why it is so hard to be a beginner. And that failure is inevitable and that is ok.
