How Hands On Are You With Your Homeschool Teaching?

How hands on are with your homeschool teaching? And how hands on do you need to be? I am a second-generation homeschooler, and I homeschool my 6 kids. I am going to give you all the answers to these questions.

This is a momtreprneur coffee. Basically, I pick a topic that has been roaming through my mind, and we chat about it. Throw your hair up in a messy bun and let’s talk.

From Public School to Homeschool Teaching

If you transitioned from the public school to homeschool. Then you have a mental picture in your head of what homeschooling looks like. And it probably looks a lot like a classroom. You have white board and all the fun stuff.

What if I told you that you don’t need any of that. You don’t  even need to teach in your homeschool. I know shocking. Now, this does depend on the grade. Your kindergarten might get a little frustrated if he had to teach himself to read, and a bit confusing.

Teaching Your Kids to be Independent Learners

If you want you kids to be independent learners. Then reading is going to be the foundation for all their learning.

If your kids know how to read and understand what they are reading, then they are good. They can search for answers on their own. If they have a question, then they can find the answer.

Since this is a coffee chat, check out our Mug Nerds store.

Homeschool Teaching and Working from Home

If you are working from home, you may not be able to do all the teaching. If you have a lot of kids, especially with an age range. Then you may need to spend more time with the younger ones.

You need to set yourself up for success. The measure of success, in this instance, is your kids get up and come do their schoolwork without you telling them to do it. And get it done on their own.

Schedule vs Routine

Outsource Your Teaching

Creating independent learners is the first step. The second step in homeschool teaching is to outsource your teaching. There are so many online classes specifically created for homeschoolers. Greg Landry Homeschool Science is an excellent program. Especially, if you want virtual science labs for high school. Mr D Math offers a wide variety of classes.

Both of these programs are intentionally created for homeschoolers.

Your homeschool doesn’t need to be dependent on you. If you want more tools for homeschool freedom, then watch or listen to the full episode.
